ROSS DALY & FRIENDS - Review (2003)

James Waller, a visual artist who lives in Melbourne, was moved by the concert he saw at the Brunswick Town Hall in March 2003. He wrote the following response to the concert:

ROSS DALY AND FRIENDS in Melbourne

Throughout the performance all five artists retain an unfaltering balance of emotional and textural depth. Fearlessly the individual ‘voice’ rises from the whole, not breaking it, but raising it to a new degree of richness. With the sense of having grown, the ‘voice’ humbly falls back, integrating seamlessly with the emotional tune of the ensemble.

In this way the night is formed, from dance to lament, from seamless whole to fearless chariot, pulled by one or two ‘voices’ and back again.  The revelation of time within this exchange is of endless giving and receiving, a spell of sorrow which is met, listened to, and transformed into life force.

James Waller (artist, Melbourne)
