PRRIM Satsuki Odamura - koto A word meaning ‘spring’ or ‘native well’, PRRIM is the name adopted by three exceptional Australian musicians of diverse backgrounds, to encapsulate the vision and thrust of the music they make together - Satsuki Odamura on koto, Tunji Beier on South Indian percussion and Adrian Sherriff on bass trombone. While the name of the group comes from the language of the indigenous Wembawemba people of Western Victoria, the music casts a wide net, encompassing a range of traditions from across the world, including: South Indian, Japanese and Indonesian - with a touch of jazz. True to its name, the ensemble is fresh, alive and spontaneous, focusing on improvisation and original compositions which traverse a broad emotional palette. A particular fascination of the group is the exploration of the South Indian rhythmic tradition as a creative springboard for their musical adventures. Sharing a common passion for heartfelt communication through sound, together they display a dynamic rapport and synergy which is exceptional. Tunji is well known to Australian audiences through his collaborations with Linsey Pollak, in their Macedonian influenced duo ‘Dva’. He was born in Papua New Guinea and grew up in Nigeria, Germany and Australia. In the 1990’s Tunji lived in Europe and worked with the likes of Billy Cobham, Zakir Hussain and Trilok Gurtu. Adrianis Australia’s leading improvising soloist on the bass trombone. He is also an extraordinary multi-instrumentalist and his performance in PRRIM also encompasses the shakuhachi and a wide array of other instruments. He is also a member of the Australian Art Orchestra and Andrea Keller’s Bartok Project’' Satsukiis a koto virtuoso who has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, from contemporary improvisers Jim Denley and Sandy Evans, to Hindustani sarod virtuoso, Ashok Roy, shakuhachi master Riley Lee, cross–cultural group Slivanje and the percussion ensemble Synergy.
