Jaw or jew's harpMorsingThe morsing belongs to the family of instruments known as the jaw or jew's harp. These instruments are found all around the world. The morsing is made from metal. In the playing position it is held to the mouth and rested against the teeth. Sounds are produced by plucking a metal tongue and changing the shape of the resonating cavity in the mouth to accentuat e di fferent overtones. Other variations in timbre can be made by utilising the breath either inhaling or exhaling. Of the common instruments in the tala vadya, morsing is the one which is closest to spoken konnakol as all the rhythmic phrasing is produced through unvoiced konnakol articulations.
